Follow these steps to access your Aetna Student Health ID Card:

1. Click here to go to the Get Your ID Card link
2. Type in your Student ID, Date of Birth, and Email
   • Note: The data you enter must match what your school has provided to Aetna, otherwise you will receive an error message. If you experience issues authenticating and/or would like to verify the demographic information in Aetna’s system, please contact Aetna Customer Service at 1 (877) 480-4161.
3. Available ID cards will display once you hit submit. Select the ID card you would like to receive and then click Send Email.
   • Note: If you’d like to receive your ID card at an email address other than the email on file with Aetna, please select Edit and you will be prompted to enter an alternative email address.
4. You will receive a secure Mimecast email with a PDF of your ID card attached. Click here for information on how to access the Mimecast secure messaging portal.

Domestic Undergraduate Students registered in nine (9) or more hours - three (3) or more for Summer - are eligible to enroll in the Plan.

Graduate students enrolled in six (6) or more credit hours  - three (3) or more for Summer - are eligible to enroll in the Plan.

Distance Learning Students taking nine (9) or more credit hours and paying the SHSU Medical Services Fee are eligible to participate in the plan on a voluntary basis.

Dependent coverage is not offered for Domestic or Distance Learning Students.

Voluntary coverage will only be sold by Fall, Spring/Summer, and Summer semester, and student must meet eligibility requirements each semester.

For the 2025-2026 policy year, Sam Houston State University has been upgraded to the latest release of the AHP student health insurance platform.

Your current username and password will not work on the upgraded platform for the 2025-2026 policy year. Click on the button below to setup a new account and password using your @shsu.edu email address.

Click the button below to Enroll Yourself in the Student Health Insurance. Premium will be paid directly to AHP.

Click the button below to Enroll in Medical Insurance if you meet the requirements of a Qualifying Event. After logging into your account, please click on the menu icon in the top left corner and select Qualifying Event.
